Watertown High School Construction Reaches Halfway Mark
The Watertown High School construction project has reached a major milestone, with work roughly 50 percent complete on the new building scheduled to open in 2026.
School and city officials recently toured the building and were wowed by the progress that has been made in a short amount of time. Construction began a little over a year ago with the demolition of the old Watertown High School and steel began going up in early 2024.
The new building will feature a 31,000-square-foot gym, a 480-auditorium, a beautiful library/media center, and a stunning 4-story atrium housing the majority of the school's classrooms. AI3 Architects, the firm tasked with designing the new WHS, has produced a virtual tour of the building for the Watertown community.
When Watertown High School opens in April of 2026, it will be the first high school in the United States to achieve both net-zero energy and LEED Platinum 4.1 status.
