Classroom Operation and Maintenance Requests

Maintenance & Cleaning Requests:

If you have any maintenance or custodial issues, all requests should be made to your building's Senior Custodian.  This can be done in person, or via email.

Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS):

MSDS are availavle for review in several places.  Any solutions used in a building have an MSDS on file.  These documents are located in the building's main office, Central Office, and the Maintenance Office.  Please do not bring any chemicals into the building from home!  We are restricted by Massachusetts law as to what we are allowed to use in school buildings.

Classroom Window and Lights:

Please turn off all lights when leaving the room at any time.  Computers should be shut down and all windows closed prior to leaving for the day.

Univentilator Operation:

Each classroom is equipped with a univentilator.  The "unit vent" as it is commonly referred, is the rooms' main heating unit.  It also regulates the amount of fresh air supplied to the room. The unit cycles between heat and fresh air during cold wather and in warm periods it strictly cycles fresh air.  During heating season this can be mistaken for improper operation due to th the unit's blowing of colder air.

Each unit is set to cycle a certain number of times in a n hour.  If your room is either too cold or too warm, please contact the building's senior custodian.

Objects must be kept clear of the univentilators.  Please do not place anything on top of or around the unit; doing so will affect proper operation.  Student desks and other furniture should be at least 3 feet away from the front of the equipment.  In accordance with state laws for indoor air quality, it is mandatory all univentilators be turned on and running at all times.

Personal Items in the Classroom:

Any personal items brought into the classroom - i.e. rugs, towels, refrigerators, etc. - will be the responsibility of the owner to keep cleaned and maintained.  Custodians can only provide service to that equipment or materials supplied by the Watertown Public Schools.  Any materials deemed in disrepair will be removed from the building.

Weekend or after hours access:

During the school year, buildings are open from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM Monday through Friday. On weekends, the buildings are traditionally closed except for the High School, rentals or special details.  If you need access outside of these hours, please check with the Senior Custodian as to availability.
