Acceptable Use of Technology and the Internet for Watertown Staff

The Watertown Public Schools uses technology as a way of enhancing its educational
mission to teach the skills, knowledge, and behaviors students need as successful and
responsible adults. Computers, the Internet, and other technologies provide unequaled
opportunities to explore and use an enriching set of resources. In order to make these
resources available to everyone, we expect that students and staff using District equipment
will do so in a responsible way consistent with our educational goals.

We expect Watertown staff to abide by the following rules:

  • Do not give out others’ personal information such as addresses, telephone
numbers, passwords, or credit card information. Be careful when giving out
    your own information online.
  • Be careful when printing, storing, downloading, and distributing confidential student
    information.
  • Follow the copyright rules for the distribution and use of software and information on
both the Watertown Public Schools’ computer system and Internet.
  • Do not participate in the transfer of inappropriate or illegal materials through the
Watertown Public Schools’ computer system and/or Internet connection and agree to
abide by the definition of inappropriate or illegal material established by the school
    administration.
  • Release the Watertown Public Schools from liability or damages that may result
from use of the computer system and/or Internet connection.
  • Inform Tech Services in a timely manner when equipment is damaged and in need of
    repair.

Please remember to assume no personal privacy when using the District’s email system or
computer equipment. The district maintains the ability to monitor computer, web, and email
usage and may do so either during routine maintenance or when requested to by an
investigating authority.
